Newquay is situated on the north coast of mid Cornwall. Being on the north coast means that its beaches have some of the best surf in Britain and indeed Europe. There are a wide variety of beaches nearby; Fistral, Cantrock, Holywell Bay, Porth Joke, Towan, Great Western, Tolcarne, Lusty Glaze, Porth and Watergate Bay which all have their own distinct features.

Fistral Beach - Headland Point can just be seen on the right hand side.

Headland Point from rocks on Towan Head

Fistral beach is only five minutes walk form the apartments and the cottages and is Newquay's main surfing beach. For anyone wishing to learn to surf there are a number of surf schools that offer tuition at Fistral including the BSA which is based at the Surf Centre.

Headland Point is situated on the edge of the coastal footpath and is an execellent starting point for walks to Towan Head, across Fistral to Pentire Head or into Newquay town centre and beyond towards Watergate Bay.

Two other activities that are available close to Headland Point are golf and fishing. The golf course is the other side of headland road although the clubhouse is six or seven minutes walk away. Fishing is popular off the rocks on the east side of Towan Head which is overlooked by the apartments.Care must be taken when there is a swell or rough weather.

There are a number of attractions to be found in Trenance such as the gardens, the Zoo, Watersworld, the skate park and the tennis centre which now includes indoor tennis courts.

Slightly further afield are the National Trust Properties: Trerice Manor and Lanhydrock House which are close to Newquay and Bodmin respectively and well worth a visit.

Those interested in horticulture should take the time to visit the excellent Eden Project close to St Austell, the Lost Gardens of Heligan close to Mevagissey and Trelissick Gardens between Truro and Falmouth.

Other attractions in the rest of Cornwall are St Michaels Mount at Marizion, the Minack Theatre on the Lizard, the Tate at St Ives and Cotehele House close to the Devon border.
